Life on earth after Frieza was peaceful until King Cold, Frieza's father, had collected what remained of his son and put him together with some atificial parts, making him a cyborg. With the new and improved Frieza, they head off to Earth for revenge.
The Z Fighters sensed the impending doom and two very large evil powers approaching. Frieza finally arrives and the Z Fighters sneak up to see what he wanted. Frieza orders his men to kill everyone on the planet.
Moments later, a mysterious figure arrives in a time machine. He confronts Frieza and his father. The youth kills all of Frieza's men before they could accomplish their mission. The mysterious figure proceeds to fight a brief battle with Frieza before slicing him up. King Cold denies that his son was killed so easily by a "monkey" and convinces himself that the teenager's powers came from the sword. King Cold asks the figure to give him the sword and he does. King Cold wastes no time attacking, but the mysterious youth just catches the blade with his fingers. He kills King Cold and flies over to the Z Fighters. He knows that they are waiting for Goku and leads them to the percise spot Goku would be landing. He tells them that Goku will be arriving in 2 hours. They wait and finally Goku comes. The mysterious saiya-jin asks Goku if he could have a word with him. When they are alone, the young warrior turns into a super saiya-jin and attcks Goku. He strikes his sword a few inches from Goku's head, but doesn't hit him. Goku does not budge. He said that he know the saiya-jin wouldn't hit him. The saiya-jin attacks him some more and Goku stops each attempt using his fingers. The youth decides Goku might be powerful enough to beat the androids and tells his story.
The saiya-jin introduces himself as Trunks and that he's from the future. He also tells Goku that 2 extremely powerful androids were coming in 3 years to destroy the world, not only that, but Goku will not fight them for he will die of a heart disease. Goku is bumbed, not that he would die...but that he wouldn't have the chance to fight them. Trunks then tells him the exact date that they will have to meet again when the androids come. Lastly, Trunks tells Goku that he's Bulma and Vegeta's son. Goku is shocked and promises not to tell anyone, because if he did, Bulma and Vegeta might not have fallen in love and had Trunks.
Goku returns to his friends and tells them everything except Trunks' parentage. He forgets the date, but luckily, Piccolo, with his ultra-sensitive ears, overhears everything and tells them the date. He leaves out the part about Bulma and Vegeta. They all agree to meet on the date and go their separate ways. Goku, Piccolo, and Gohan all train together, Tien and Chaozu also train together, Krillin and Yamcha each go their separate ways. There are a few comical episodes between then and the time they have to meet.
The time comes and all of them meet on the island. The trouble is, is that the island is populated by a huge city. The Z Fighters gather and find that Bulma has a baby with her. Goku accidently slipped Trunks' name without Bulma even telling him yet. The fighters spread out to find the androids. Since the fighters can't sense an android's Ki, they have to search using the 6 senses. Yamcha finds them finally, but they absorb his energy and almost kill him. The others arrive to Yamcha's aid, but retreat because the androids were causing to many deaths in that area. They give Yamcha a Sensu bean when they get to the original location for their meeting and he is revived. The androids follow them to the island and Goku battles 19. The Z fighters notice that Goku is not himself and there's something seriously wrong. He is short of breath just from flying, and then Android 19 starts abosrbing Goku's energy. Vegeta comes to Goku's rescue using a flying kick to 20's head. The others quickly assume that it was because of Goku's heart condition. Goku had not taken the medicine when he needed it because the symptoms never came. Yamcha takes Goku to his house and Chi Chi gives him the medicine. Android 20, which is Dr. Gero after he tells 19 to convert him into and android, is amazed that anyone could be strong enough to defeat 19. He runs away into the mountains and hides himself inside crevices. Since the Z Fighters couldn't sense his Ki, he had time to think of a plan. 20 finally decides to absorb each of the Z Fighters one by one and then face Vegeta. 20's first victim was going to be Piccolo, but with his super sensitive ears, heard the attack coming. While 20 was absorbing his energy, Piccolo was actually destroying the energy going into 20. Piccolo takes a Sensu bean and challenges 20 to a battle. Thinking that 20 had Piccolo's energy, he attacks. The Sensu bean revives Piccolo's strength and he continues to beat up 20. Astonished that this happened, 20 runs away into the crevices and tries to run to his lab.
Gero returns to his well-hidden lab and reactivates 17 and 18. They are mad that he had deactivated them earlier and plan to kill Gero. The grab the remote that is used to activate them and destroy it. Then they proceed to kill Gero, by first kicking off his head and then squashing it. They activate 16 soon after, even though Gero warned them not to. The Z Fighter finally find Gero's lab. Trunks tries to blast it, but it has no effect. They meet 16 for the first time. 17 and 18 ask 16 if they were made to kill Goku and he say yes. The androids fly away. Vegeta, angry that they didn't even notice his power, insist on following them and fighting them. Trunks argues Vegeta and warns him many times, but Vegeta doesn't listen.
The androids stop on the road and decide if they're going to take a car, for fun to Goku's house. Just by curiosity, 17 asks 16 if he was made from a human, like 17 and 18 were, 16's response was that he was made from nothing. Vegeta arrives and challenges the androids. 18 wants 16 to kill Vegeta, but he refuses, saying that he will only kill Goku. So 18 decides to fight Vegeta and she appears to be winning. Piccolo notes that while Vegeta is getting weaker by every blow, 18's power stays the same. Trunks, not being able to watch Vegeta get beat up, attacks with his sword. It does not harm to 18 and it chips on the side. Piccolo and Tien start to fight, but are quickly tossed aside. Krillin doesn't participates, knowing he will not win. The androids tell him to give his friends a Sensu and 18 kisses him on the cheek. They say that they're not going to kill the Z Fighters because they are only out to kill Goku. The androids fly away.
Piccolo, steamed, flies off and tells everyone not to follow him or else. Krillin realizes that Piccolo is going to go reunite with Kami. Piccolo explains that it's the only way to save the world, but Kami is hesitant. Piccolo just sits there and says that the longer it takes for Kami to make a decision, the more Earth will be in peril because androids will soon destroy the world.
The Z Fighters note that the androids are going towards Goku's house and they must move him to a safer location. They transport him in a plane to the Kame House. The androids take their sweet time, stopping at many places and have a few run ins with different people. Trunks and the Z Fighters discuss how to destroy the androids by using the time machine, but Trunks explains that it would create a new timeline and have no effect. He also explains that his coming back would not make a difference either, but he wanted to know if the androids would have any weaknesses when Goku fought them. Also possibly taking him back to Trunks' future and helping him destroy the androids.
During this time they were on the plane, Bulma calls them and tells them that a person had found an aircraft and wants to know if they can make it work. She faxes the image to Trunks and he decides he needs a closer look. Trunks and Gohan head out, while Bulma gets ready to fly out there too. They find the time machine and Trunks says it's his. Inside they find 2 halfs of an empty shell. Trunks takes out his time machine and points out the similarities. He then puts both time machines back into their capsules and search for the creature that hatched from the egg. Gohan finds the exoskeleton of an unknown creature. With nothing else to do, they leave to tell the others of their findings.
Meanwhile on Kami's lookout, he sees that the world is in grave condition, decide to fuse with Piccolo. Piccolo beomes The Super Namek and heads out.
On his way he senses Frieza and a bunch of huge powers in one place. This puzzles him, so he flies to the location. The Z Fighters also sense the energies and they too fly to the location. There Piccolo sees a monster sucking energy from innocent people. He tells the monster to back off. They move to a different location and start battling. The monster's attacks didn't scratch the new and improved Piccolo, so the monster throws a Kamehameha at Piccolo, which catches him off guard. The monster grabs Piccolo and starts to suck away at Piccolo's right arm.
After saying he gives up, he asks the monster who he is and what he's up to. The monster introduces himself as Cell and he was created by Dr. Gero. He was created by using the cells of all the great fighters. In his plans, Dr. Gero programmed him to always have a thirst for energy and it will never be satisfied unless he can absorb 17 and 18 to become perfect. When he was forming, Dr. had a tape be played telling him of his mission and stuff because he knew the androids would sooner or later betray him, so he had to think ahead. When the androids killed Dr. Gero, the computer knew to automatically play the tapes to Cell. He had come in Trunks' time capsule to the past so he can absorb the androids Trunks' had killed in his timeline.
After this little chat, Piccolo ripped off his shriveled arm and regenerated it. Cell was forced to battle once again. Krillin and Trunks get there, but Cell uses his Solar Flare and gets away. Piccolo is mad at himself for losing Cell. He also tells them that he had fused with Kami. Piccolo then flies off to find Cell but Trunks and Krillin decide to go back to Gero's lab and destroy the baby Cell before he could finish developing. After destroying Dr. Gero's lab and the baby Cell, they take the blueprints for Android 17 that they found inside the lab. They return home to show Bulma the prints they found and told the others about Cell. Dr. Briefs and Bulma encounter a lot of things that have them baffled. They promise to try to find a weakspot for our heros and Trunks and Krillin fly off.
Krillin senses Cell nearby and goes to the spot Cell is. He saves some kids and battles it out with Cell. Krillin is getting beat up pretty bad and Cell was going to absorb him when Tien and Piccolo come and the coward Cell runs away.
Back in Kame House, Goku wakes up from his coma and trains on the beach. He instant transmits himself and Gohan to where Trunks and Vegeta were training and tells them about the Hyperbolic Time Chamber at Kami's place. They leave and Mr.Popo greets them. He leads them to the Chamber and the fighters decide Vegeta and Trunks can go first.
Meanwhile, the androids find Goku's house, but it was empty. They trash it and start searching again when they encounter Piccolo. 17 decides to fight Piccolo. Piccolo seems to have the upperhand, but the fight is interrupted by Cell, who sensed that the androids were near. Piccolo ends up being beaten up badly by 17 when Cell arrives. 17, now fighting Cell, was losing. Cell was about to absorb 17 when he was interrupted by Piccolo. He tells them to run, but the androids don't listen. Cell then kills Piccolo. Up in Kami's place, Gohan breaks down and cries. He wants to help Piccolo, but Goku stops him. Meanwhile, Piccolo's body was thrown in the ocean. 17 was yet again battling Cell, when 16 came up behind him and started to beat him up. 16 ripped off Cell's tail, but since he had Piccolo's cells within him, his tail regenerated. 16 used some powerful attacks on Cell and it seemed like Cell was dead. 16 tells the other androids to leave because it wasn't enough to kill Cell, but they don't listen. As a result, 17 was absorbed. While Cell was transforming to his next stage, 16 grabs 18 and they fly away. Cell stops them and blasts some of 16's head off. Tien interferes and keeps Cell at bay using his Tri Beam, but can't keep it up for long. He falls down, but the androids got away.
Goku comes and picks up Tien and senses Piccolo and also retrieves him. He says that he'll battle Cell another time and leaves. Cell is on the rampage looking for 18. Goku brings them to Kami's lookout and givse them a Sensu bean. The Hyperbolic Time Chamber opens and Vegeta and Trunks step out.
Trunks and Vegeta's training paid off due to their immense power increase. They both supassed super saiya-jin, reaching ultra super saiya-jin, the second stage. Goku and Gohan went in next. Vegeta, decided to test his powers out on Cell. Vegeta flies off toward Cell's Ki and Trunks follows.
Meanwhile, Krillin and Bulma catch up to eachother and Bulma gives Krillin the remote. Krillin rushes toward 18 and sees Cell blowing up every island, making sure that his energy would kill every living thing, but not enough to kill 18. Krillin finally finds her, but doesn't have the heart to shut her down, but instead, crushes the remote. He tells her to leave when Cell was on the last island, which was the one they were on. She doesn't and instead she watches the fight with Cell and Vegeta. Vegeta's new power baffles her and she begins to think that Vegeta was only toying with her when they fought.
Before Cell blew up the last island, Vegeta came and interupted him. Cell notes Vegeta's power increase and they fight. Vegeta is giving Cell the beating of his life. Cell whines about not being complete, but Vegeta just calls him a big baby. Vegeta starts having some fun beating up Cell when Cell convinces Vegata that he would be more of a challenge when he's complete. Vegeta falls for the trap and lets Cell search for 18. Trunks tries to stop Cell, but Vegeta stops him. While they argued, Cell finds 18. Trunks, who was very worried, gets away from Vegeta and stops Cell ,punching him into the side of the mountain. Cell buries underground and tries to absorb 18, but Trunks kicks him away. Vegeta stops Trunks, telling him that he wouldn't dare hit his own father, but Trunks finally blasts Vegeta away. Cell moves closer to 18 when Trunks kicks him away again. Cell, angry at the fact that he couldn't even get close to 18, uses Solar Flare. While everyone is blinded, he comes down an absorbs the android. He completes his transformation, even though Trunks kept on attacking Cell, but it was no use.
The new and improved Cell kicks Krillin hard and Trunks immediately gives him a Sensu bean. Vegeta comes back and flies down to fight the perfect Cell. Vegeta gets angry that he's not beating Cell and Cell isn't taking their battle seriously. Vegeta's anger gets the better of him and he uses all his energy up. Vegeta uses his Final Flash and destroys Cell's arm, but it regenerates. Vegeta is getting beat up pretty bad when Trunks tells Krillin that he had supassed Vegeta. Vegeta is knocked unconcious and Cell is about to kill Vegeta when he notices Trunks powering up. Trunks decides to fight Cell and leads him away from Vegeta. Trunks signals to Krillin, telling him to get Vegeta out of the way. Krillin realizes that Trunks was letting Cell beat him up so Krillin can take Vegeta somewhere safe. After Krillin takes Vegeta away, Trunks and Cell fight without holding anything back. Trunks powers up to his maximum and Cell tells him that he'll never beat him.
Meanwhile, in the Hyperbolic Time Chamber, Goku gets Gohan to turn into a super saiya-jin. Also Goku turns into a ultra super saiya-jin to demonstrate it to Gohan. He explains that being an ultra super saiya-jin isn't good because it's too slow with all the bulky muscles and it will make you slower. Down on the battle field Cell was explaining the same thing to Trunks. Feeling very foolish, Trunks lets Cell destroy him. Instead, Cell asks him if he had more time, could he get stronger and he says yes. Cell than gets to the point and says that he will have a Martial Arts Tournament. He says for Trunks to watch the news for the place the tournament will take place and whmoever can beat him will win and he won't destroy the Earth. When asked what was his purpose, he said that he was just fighting for the heck of it and he had no interest in the world or Goku. Trunks then leaves to tell his friends. Meanwhile, Cell makes preparations for the tournament.
When Vegeta finally woke up, Krillin and Vegeta return to see if Trunks needed any help. They find Trunks standing there, but Cell wasn't anywhere to be seen. Vegeta asks Trunks what happened and where's Cell. Trunks said that he couldn't defeat Cell.
Krillin takes 16 to Dr. Briefs and Bulma so they can fix him, even though Vegeta wanted them to destroy 16. Trunks and the others fly back to the Kame House and Trunks tells everyone that Cell was having the Cell Game and unless they can defeat him, he would destroy the world and kill everyone. As they were talking, Cell finishes constructing the arena that his Tenkaichi Budoukai would take place and flies off to the news broadcasting system to announce his games to the world.
Meanwhile back at the Kame House, the Z Fighters tune into the television and sees Cell for the first time. It is announced that he was having the tournament in 10 days and anyone who wants to fight can. He also includes that they will be fighting him non-stop and he won't get to rest. He blows up a building behind him and explains that if no one is able to beat him, then he will blow up the Earth.
Back on Kami's lookout, Goku and Gohan come out a few hours early and Piccolo takes his turn in the Hyperbolic Time Chamber. Vegeta had planned to train in the Hyperbolic Time Chamber for the rest of the 9 days, but Mr. Popo explains that if you stay there more than 48 hours, the door will close on you forever. Goku and Gohan emerge as super saiya-jins and appear to be normal, without losing any power. After a hardy meal from Mr. Popo, they are told about the Cell Game. He says that they can take another day in the Hyperbolic Time Chamber, but Goku decides they didn't need it.
On Cell's tournament grounds, Goku teleports there and tells him not to kill anybody before the tournament, but Cell ends up killing a whole milltary fleet later. Goku teleports back to Kami's lookout and gets Gohan and they go home. On their way, they stop at Korrin's tower so Goku can ask him how he matches up with Cell. Goku shows half his power to Korrin, and the results are that Goku isn't strong enough to beat Cell. Goku knew all along that he was no match, but Gohan is surprised. He was even more surprised to see Goku so relaxed and calm, even though he knew he wouldn't win. Goku tells Krillin and Gohan that he plans to rest for three days and train for three days and rest another three days and then go to the tournament. Everyone is puzzled by Goku's behavior and calmness.
During their resting days, Gohan celebrates his 11th birthday, plus becoming friends with a girl named Lime. Cell kept himself busy by blowing up the military. In one episode, Krillin threw a rock at Goku's head, thinking that Goku would crush it into a million pieces. Instead the rock hit Goku in the head while he was sleeping, causing him to cry out in pain.
On Kami's lookout, Piccolo is done training and Vegeta hastily goes into the Hyperbolic Time Chamber to try to get stronger than Goku. Goku meets up with Piccolo and asks him if he can separate with Kami so the Dragonballs could come back, but he said that it was a one way deal. So without Kami, Goku instant transmits himself to King Kai's planet so King Kai can point to him the general direction of Namek. Goku transmits himself there and asks if anyone would volunteer to be Earth's new guardian. The Grand Elder suggests Dende, explaining to him that Dende would be the perfect candidate because he knew a lot about Earth, plus he wanted to see Gohan and Krillin again.
Goku takes Dende back and he restores the Dragonballs, creating a new Shenlong for the Earth, which can grant two wishes instead of one. After the Dragonballs scattered around the Earth, Goku drops by Bulma's to get the Dragonball Radar. Meanwhile, Tao Pai Pai was collecting Dragonballs for his boss, Vodka. Vodka was planning on wishing for a new empire so he could rule after Cell destroys the world. Goku comes knocking on their door and asks for the Dragonballs. Tao Pai Pai cleverly devises a plan to trick Goku, and manages to take his Dragonballs. Tao Pai Pai tells Goku that he has to figure out 3 puzzle rings by morning, and if he does, he can go ahead and take the Dragonballs they've collected. Goku completes the puzzle rings, and transmits himself to their location to retrieve the Dragonballs. Goku gathers all the Dragonballs and takes them to Dende to keep for the time being.
Now, with only one hour left before the Cell Game, our heroes gather at the tournament grounds one by one, with Vegeta as the first real opponent to arrive.
A news crew is the first to arrive, video taping the grand entrance made by Mr. Satan. Vegeta then arrives shortly after. While Mr. Satan brags about his infinite powers, the Z Fighters arrive in a group. Tien and Yamcha decide they would accompany their friends, but will not fight. The new and improved Android 16 joins on their side. The news crew ponder about how the Z Fighters were flying, but Mr. Satan assures them that it was a trick. This is how he explains the power beams and the speed that the Z Fighters and Cell exibit throughout the entire Cell Game.
Goku says he's up first and no one has objections to it except Mr. Satan. Mr. Satan argues and Krillin says that it might be better if Mr. Satan dies, at least he'll be wished back. Apon Mr. Satan stepping on the ring, two more useless fighters come, introducing themselves as Mr. Satan's pupils. They are quickly discharged by Cell and Mr. Satan is up next. He meaninglessly breaks some tiles and begins to fight Cell. One quick smack and Mr. Satan is sent flying into the side of the mountain. During the whole show, Mr. Satan tries to cover up his strengthlessness and tries to maintain his ego as the strongest man on Earth. He also pretends to have a stomache, so he wouldn't have to fight Cell again, fearing he would lose miserably.
Now the real battle begins. Goku steps up on to the ring and proceeds to fight Cell. After a few minutes, they agree to stop warming up and get fighting for real, which shocked everyone. Cell and Goku give it all they've got, but then Goku quits all of the sudden. Everyone is even more shocked, having no idea why Goku was doing that. Goku admits to Cell that he can't beat him. Cell says that if Goku quits then, he'll destroy the world. Goku explains that the fight's not over just because he quit. Cell says that he only wants to fight Goku, but Goku doesn't listen to him and Gohan is introduced as the new opponent. They fight for a while, with no one getting the upperhand.
Meanwhile at Chi Chi's, she starts to freak that Goku is allowing Gohan to fight the monster Cell. She starts running a muck and destroying everything around her. Her father, the Ox King, tries to calm her down, but it doesn't work. Cell decides that he didn't want to fight Gohan anymore and wants to fight Goku. Every attack Cell makes on him, he doesn't fight back. Gohan then tells Cell that he has a hidden power and if he is pushed too far, the power will be released and who knows what destruction will take place. Cell, intrigued by this new piece of information, tries to do anything possible to get Gohan to release his powers, but Gohan controls himself. Cell is beating Gohan badly and it looked like Gohan wasn't going to make it. Goku, watching his son getting beat up, begins to have second thoughts about letting Gohan fight against Cell. Piccolo tells Goku that Gohan is just a scared 11 year old boy wondering why his father is making him do this. Goku tells Krillin to give him a Sensu bean so he can fight Cell again, but Cell then takes the Sensu beans away from Krillin before he could hand one to Goku. Cell anounces that he will hurt everyone Gohan cares for and do anything to release Gohan's hidden power.
Cell is faced toward Gohan when 16 comes and holds on to him. He tells everyone that he has a self-destruct bomb that is powerful enough to kill Cell, and when he tries to uses it, Krillin remembers that Bulma and her father had removed it. Cell, realizing that 16 was then helpless, blows him up. Gohan doesn't get angry enough, so Cell releases 7 mini replicas of himself to beat up on the Z Fighters. Only Trunks and Vegeta could defend themselves after a while, but the other 5 are being beaten almost to death.
16's head, which was the only thing left of him, lands in front of Hercule, asking Hercule to throw him to Gohan. In a moment of courage, Hercule picks up 16's head and throws him onto the battle field. 16 then gives Gohan some encouragment. Sickened by this, Cell squashes 16's head and he is no longer existant. That was the last straw, and Gohan turned into a super saiya-jin level 2.
Cell was finally pleased that Gohan had released his powers (Gohan is the first person to turn into a super saiya-jin level 2). Gohan's speed increased greatly and he grabbed the Sensu beans away from Cell's hands. Gohan, now extremely mad, attacks and kills all the little Cells, making Cell very angry. Gohan tosses Trunks the Sensu bean bag and tells him to distribute them to everyone. With that taken care of, Gohan goes back to fight Cell once again. With only a few blows, Gohan has Cell in pain. Cell, angry that Gohan could hurt him that badly only after a few blows decides to use the Kamehameha. Gohan blocks it and sends his own blast to Cell, destroying the top part of Cell. Goku tells Gohan to destroy him now before he regenerates, but Gohan doesn't listen. Gohan wants Cell to hurt as much as Cell hurt his friends.
Cell regenerates and turns into the bulky, slow form that was very useless. It proved it's name when Gohan smacked Cell around and punched him in the stomach. Cell spits 18 back up and turns back into his incomplete form. With no other options, and knowing he doesn't stand a chance against Gohan, Cell puffs himself up and says that in one minute he would self destruct, taking everything with him. He also says that if they try an attack on him, he would blow up right away. Now feeling bad for letting Cell regenerate, Gohan bgeins to curse himself.
Goku, being the noble fool he is, decides he has only one thing to do to save his friends and planet. He waves goodbye to everyone and his son and instant transmits himself and Cell to King Kai's planet. Goku apologizes to King Kai for what is going to happen and Cell self destructs, killing everyone, including Goku, King Kai, Bubbles, and Gregory.
They are on the Snake Way when they learn that Cell did not die and is alive somewhere! Meanwhile back on earth, everyone mourns Goku's death and Gohan bursts out crying. Out of nowhere, a blast comes through the dust and kills Trunks. He explains that he has regenerative cells and he regenerated himself with his one cell that was remaining, and since his cells had a taste of 18's power, they stored it away and blowing himself up was the best thing to happen to him. He tells everyone that he will never die and the Z fighters are shocked beyond shocked. Cell also says that he's learned Goku's instant transmission technique and has grown stronger because he has saiya-jin DNA cells that make him stronger.
Gohan decides to battle Cell again. In the background, Vegeta goes mad that his son was killed. Vegeta thinks to himself that Trunks has done everything for him and he had done nothing but ignore him. Vegeta, with no hope of winning, attacks Cell head on. Vegeta gives it everything he's got, but is no match for Cell and doesn't even scratch him. Vegeta is tossed around before Cell decides to end Vegeta's misery and kill him. Gohan jumps infront of the beam and saves Vegeta's life, shattering his arm in the process. Cell then uses an energy blast and with no hope, Gohan stands there, waiting for his doom. With some encouraging words form Goku, Gohan uses his Kamehameha. Backed by his father, the wave becomes stronger.
The Z Fighters decide to help even though they were no match for Cell. Vegeta decides to help too and blasts Cell from the top, distracting Cell and Gohan then finally beats Cell once and for all.
They leave to go back to Kami's lookout and with that opportunity, Hercule grabs his chance to say that he killed Cell and saved the Earth. The world then believes Mr. Satan and they worship him. On Kami's lookout, they use Dende's Dragonballs and wish everyone Cell killed back to life. Goku does not come, he tells Gohan that he is the cause Earth is always under attack, so he stays in the spirit world. Yamcha wanted to wish for money, but ends up saying it was s joke. Krillin then wishes for the bombs in 17 and 18 to be removed. It is done, and 18 thanks him before she leaves.
When Chi Chi hears the story of Goku's death, she's heart-broken, but she goes on with her life. Trunks leaves to go back to the future and says bye to everyone. In the future, he visits Bulma and then leaves to go kill the androids. He fights 18 and destroys her. 17 is angry and attacks Trunks. He too is killed with ease. Then 3 years later Trunks prepares to take a trip to the past to tell everyone what happened. He senses Cell and they fight. If Cell could defeat Trunks, then he could take the time machine. Trunks destroys the incomplete Cell and everything is peaceful in the future and past.
After Goku breaks King Kai's house in which he worked so hard for, they decided (along with Bubbles and Gregory) to travel the Snake Way and go on to the after world. Goku still has his body, and goes on a plane to meet the Grand Kai. King Kai and Goku leave behind Bubbles and Gregory while they go on their adventure.
When they reached Grand Kai's place, they meet East, West, and South Kai. The others laugh at King Kai for being dead, and East Kai shows his prized possession: Paiku-chan. Paiku-chan is one of the strongest fighters.
They meet the Grand Kai, a strange old man who is the ruler of all the quadrants. He shows them to a room where he reveals that the Afterlife Tournament will begin. It's a room that is a reminiscent of a small solar system.
When the tournament begins, Goku has little difficulty defeating all his opponents, and Paiku-chan is also winning easily. The two meet for the championship, where they put on a great battle. In the end, Goku is the winner until the Grand Kai states that both of them were disqualified for touching the ceiling. However, since both of them had such a wonderful fight, the Grand Kai offered them the chance to train under his mastery.
While Goku is training, Gohan begins his life at high school and now he has a little brother named Goten.
